NYPD Memo Outlines Extensive Security, Street Closure for Reported Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce Wedding at MSG
A recently surfaced police document details a multi-day event at Madison Square Garden, expecting 1,000 high-profile attendees and significant street management.
U.S.·

A New York Police Department (NYPD) memorandum, dated June 29, indicates preparations for a significant security operation, including the closure of a city block around Madison Square Garden in central Manhattan.
The internal document outlines plans for an event encompassing several days of setup, celebration, and dismantling. Approximately 1,000 guests are anticipated, many of whom are categorized as "high profile" and "VIP" by the police department, despite being a relatively modest number for the venue and the individuals involved.
The memo notes that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have maintained discretion regarding the guest list. Consequently, law enforcement personnel have been advised to anticipate substantial crowds and a notable paparazzi presence outside the venue.
Security Preparations and Street Closures
On July 3, New York City authorities plan to close West 31st Street, situated between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, for the entire day. This street closure is described in the memo as less extensive than those implemented for the recent NBA Finals, which saw the New York Knicks clinch a victory earlier this month, and involved multiple blocks surrounding MSG.
To ensure privacy, guests arriving for the main day's cocktail hour will proceed through a secure reception tent, allowing them to enter discreetly.
The ceremony is slated for the evening, with the reception continuing into the early hours of July 4. Various reports also suggest that the celebration will feature performances by prominent artists.
Previous reports, including by TMZ, indicated that attendees received personalized, watermarked invitations, a measure reportedly taken to prevent information leaks. The specific location of the wedding had remained a subject of speculation for several weeks.
Furthermore, the memo specifies that a rehearsal dinner for approximately 100 guests is scheduled to occur at the Garden on the eve of the main event.
City Approvals and Broader Context
The multi-day event has received sponsorship and approval from the New York City Street Activity Permit Office, an entity operating under the Mayor’s Office of Citywide Event Coordination and Management. The NYPD is anticipated to supply security and traffic management services for the event, funded by taxpayers.
Page Six of The New York Post previously indicated that the wedding celebration is expected to include performances by Stevie Nicks and Tim McGraw, and has been characterized as surpassing the scale of the Met Gala. The Met Gala, an annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, generates tens of millions of dollars and also benefits from security support provided by the NYPD and the New York City Sanitation Department.
Coinciding with these festivities, approximately ten blocks north in Times Square, organizers of America 250 are preparing for celebrations marking the United States' 250th anniversary. This event will include a unique ball drop occurring eight times, symbolizing midnight in each time zone where the nation holds territory.
The NYPD has not yet responded to inquiries for comment or confirmed the authenticity of the memo. Notably, the Madison Square Garden venue is located within the NYPD's Patrol Borough Manhattan South, whose commanding officer was recently reassigned last week as part of an ongoing internal affairs corruption investigation.
