Pennsylvania Lawmaker Expresses Support for Incarcerating "Lawless MAGA Thugs" Despite Decarceration Stance
State Representative Chris Rabb, a Democratic Socialist, articulated a seemingly contradictory position on imprisonment during a recent podcast appearance.

Pennsylvania state Representative Chris Rabb, who is also a congressional candidate, recently voiced a nuanced stance on incarceration, indicating his general opposition to imprisonment while advocating for the jailing of "lawless MAGA thugs."
During an appearance on a podcast hosted by Wajahat Ali, Rabb described himself as a proponent of decarceration. "I believe the country that represents 5% of the world population but 25% of the people put in cages is morally wrong," Rabb stated, adding that it is also "bad policy."
However, he then specified an exception to this philosophy. "I will make an exception for all of those f---ers who are lawless MAGA thugs, who have destroyed lives and communities. Lock all of those f---ers up," Rabb said. He recognized the potential for this view to be seen as hypocritical, particularly for someone on the political left who advocates against incarceration, but reiterated, "lock those f---ers up."
Calls for Accountability and Congressional Action
Rabb, who is among several members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) who secured victories in Democratic primaries this year, also urged members of Congress to pursue impeachment and subpoena those he believes are "destroying what’s left of our fragile democracy."
He further elaborated on his seemingly paradoxical position, acknowledging the irony but standing firm on his belief in accountability. "I hope you all will forgive me in my, perhaps, weakness. It’s not vengefulness, but right is right," Rabb explained. He emphasized the need for a "level playing field," drawing a comparison:
If there are moms who are going to jail because they changed what school district they are so that their kids could get a better education, and they get locked up, you better believe a Jared Kushner should be experiencing some jail time. So, if that makes me a conservative, gosh, but we need to send a message.
Similar Remarks from Florida Candidate
Rabb's comments echo sentiments previously expressed by Florida Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon. Nixon, despite being a DSA member, has maintained that she is not a socialist, yet articulated a similar desire for the incarceration of a political opponent.
In an interview with Kasie Hunt, a host, Nixon indicated her wish to see her opponent, Senator Ashley Moody, R-Fla., imprisoned. Nixon addressed campaign messaging that suggested she aimed to abolish prisons and defund the police.
They are spreading, like, a lot of disinformation and lies on commercials about me, of saying things like I want to abolish prisons and I want to defund the police. Why would I want to do that when I want her locked up and punished in jail for what she has done?
When Hunt sought clarification on whether Nixon truly desired Moody's incarceration, Nixon affirmed, "Basically, yes. Because of what she did, yes. I absolutely would want that to happen. Yes."
