Celtics Orchestrate Major Trade, Sending Jaylen Brown to 76ers for Paul George and Multiple Draft Picks
The Boston Celtics have reportedly finalized a significant trade, sending Finals MVP Jaylen Brown to Eastern Conference rival Philadelphia in a multi-player, multi-pick deal.

The Boston Celtics have reportedly reached an agreement to trade All-Star guard Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers, marking a significant shift for both Eastern Conference contenders.
The deal, as reported by ESPN, involves the Celtics acquiring veteran All-Star Paul George, along with two first-round draft selections and two second-round draft selections from Philadelphia.
A Blockbuster Eastern Conference Shake-Up
This major transaction follows an offseason filled with speculation regarding Brown's future in Boston. Earlier this summer, Brown's name surfaced in discussions around a potential exchange for Giannis Antetokounmpo before the Milwaukee Bucks star ultimately moved to the Miami Heat.
Following that development, reports indicated an increased effort by the Celtics organization to finalize a trade involving Brown. Despite being named Finals MVP just two years ago for his pivotal role in securing another NBA championship for Boston, the team was reportedly actively exploring options for the dynamic 6-foot-6 guard.
Sources indicated the Celtics had engaged 8 to 10 teams across the league in recent days, soliciting offers for Brown.
"The Celtics have actually started strongly shopping Jaylen Brown, soliciting offers from a market of about eight to 10 teams in the last several days," ESPN’s Shams Charania said on "First Take" Wednesday morning. "It is unclear whether a deal is close or where they necessarily stand, but there has been a high price threshold."
Charania further clarified that, to his understanding, Brown had not requested a trade, suggesting the move was initiated by the Celtics' front office.
Jaylen Brown's Tenure and Recent Controversies
Brown is currently in the midst of a five-year, $285.39 million contract extension he signed with the Celtics, which includes a substantial $57.08 million cap hit for the 2026-27 season.
Over his ten seasons with Boston, Brown earned five All-Star selections, including four consecutive nods dating back to the 2022-23 campaign. However, his most recent offseason was not without controversy.
Brown garnered attention for comments made after the Celtics' playoff exit, where he described the past season as his "favorite year" despite the team squandering a 3-1 series lead against the 76ers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
This remark reportedly drew criticism from some, including sports commentator Stephen A. Smith, leading to a public dispute between the two. It remains unclear if these recent public exchanges played a role in the Celtics' decision to move on from Brown, but his previous inclusion in trade discussions for Antetokounmpo demonstrated the team's willingness to reconfigure its roster.
Roster Implications for Both Teams
The acquisition significantly strengthens an already formidable 76ers roster, creating what many analysts are calling a potential "Big Four" in Philadelphia.
Brown joins former league MVP Joel Embiid, All-NBA guard Tyrese Maxey, and 2025-26 All-Rookie guard VJ Edgecombe, forming a potent offensive lineup. All four players possess considerable scoring ability, promising a challenging matchup for opposing defenses next season.
For the Celtics, this trade follows another recent roster adjustment. Prior to the Brown deal, Boston secured backup center Mitchell Robinson from the New York Knicks with a four-year contract, bolstering their frontcourt.
Robinson is anticipated to potentially join Boston's projected starting five, which could include Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, Sam Hauser, and possibly Payton Pritchard at the point guard position.
Brown arrives in Philadelphia after what was a career-best season, leading the Celtics with averages of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game.
